Why 15-inch guns might have simplified King George V

The case for a 15-inch King George V is framed around standard ammunition, existing triple turrets, and fewer development risks.

Question

Why not use 15-inch guns for King George V, and would more destroyers have been a better trade?

Short answer

A 15-inch triple-turret design would have simplified logistics and development; late in the war, more large destroyers could have offered greater utility than one more battleship.

Notes

The 14-inch gun was usable, but it introduced an additional ammunition and mounting ecosystem into a fleet already centred on 15-inch weapons. Reusing an established triple turret could have avoided some of the complexity of new quadruple mounts. By 1940, the saved resources might have been better spent on large L-class destroyers than on another King George V.
