Type 26 is cast as the ASW equivalent of the air-defence ship that directs a task group's wider defensive picture. Its own sensors and quieting give it first-rate hunting ability, while its larger role is to coordinate other ships and aircraft. Uncrewed systems extend that network under the frigate's direction. This arrangement brings separate search assets into one submarine-hunting effort across the formation.
