Kawachi and Settsu carry four 12-inch/50 guns in their end turrets and eight 12-inch/45 guns in wing turrets. Their mixed main batteries would complicate the Grand Fleet's gunnery drills. Even with Fuso, the proposed three-battleship contribution would fall short of a regular British division. Assigning the Kawachi-class ships to the Channel force would let them help delay a German breakthrough until the Grand Fleet arrived. Their heavy guns could also support operations ashore.
