Kaigun traces the Zero and Kate as an integrated carrier-air system

A sample passage shows how the book connects aircraft performance, design compromises, Chinese combat experience, and carrier doctrine.

Notes

The A6M Zero combined speed, range, climb, maneuverability, and a stable gun platform when it entered service. Its weak high-speed controls and limited dive performance became serious only against later, more powerful American aircraft. The B5N Kate provided the complementary attack capability, carrying torpedoes or bombs and serving in reconnaissance and land-based operations over China before Pearl Harbor. Together the two examples show how Kaigun packs technical characteristics, operational history, and doctrinal roles into a few paragraphs.
