Five-month Type C builds and the cost of ordering late

The first Type C's September 1943 to February 1944 build illustrates rapid assembly, followed by the argument that such ships were needed years earlier.

Notes

Type C construction overlapped in time with Ukuru. The first ship was laid down in September 1943, launched in December and completed in February 1944. Other ships clustered around a five-month build, with assembly speed a priority. Construction continued into 1946 for other users. Their simplicity made them useful escorts, but the late orders left too few available when they were needed. An earlier programme beginning in 1938-39 is the proposed alternative for getting a much larger force into service.
