The Ju 87C was intended as a carrier strike aircraft with folding wings and arresting gear. Germany built only two prototypes, one with folding wings and one without. Testing showed that the arresting gear needed strengthening, one of the carrier-specific problems that required sustained development. The stalled carrier program shifted attention to the land-based, long-range Ju 87R, and the naval variant never matured.
