A powerful ship still occupies only one place

Consider how dispersed attacks and uncertainty about an enemy's location limit the value of individual-platform superiority.

Notes

A highly capable ship can dominate its immediate area and still fail to affect an enemy operating elsewhere. Its usefulness also depends on knowing where to send it. An opponent attacking several locations simultaneously creates demands that one ship cannot meet. The procurement implication applies to weapons as well as hulls: technical performance has to be weighed against the number that can be produced. The preferred level of technology is the one that supplies enough effective units for the task.
