Akizuki orders and the gap between plans and completions

Thirty-nine planned ships and twelve completions frame the case for earlier volume orders, with a caution about the quoted batch figures.

Notes

The Akizuki programme is described as thirty-nine planned ships and twelve completions. The ordering summary gives six in 1939, ten in 1941 and twenty-three in 1942. Earlier orders, preferably in 1938 or 1939, and sustained construction priority are proposed as a better approach. These were substantial destroyers of roughly 2,750 tons standard displacement, with 2,743 tons acknowledged as an official figure. The later completion breakdown gives seven ships from the first batch, four from the second and one from the third. That first-batch figure exceeds the six assigned to 1939 in the ordering summary, so the batch numbers do not form a reconciled tally.
