Jamaica covers carrier strikes against Tirpitz

Jamaica shifts from Arctic convoy cover to screening British carrier attacks on Tirpitz before a major anti-aircraft modernization.

Notes

The cruiser first returns to Arctic convoy cover before escorting Victorious during Operation Tungsten, the April 1944 Fleet Air Arm strike on Tirpitz. In July she covers Formidable, Furious, and Indefatigable during the unsuccessful Operation Mascot attack. Jamaica's subsequent refit runs from October 1944 into April 1945. It removes X turret in favor of additional 40 mm weapons and modernizes her radar suite. The refit trades part of her surface battery for stronger air defense and sensors as the aerial threat grows. She then carries King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on a Channel Islands visit before resuming overseas squadron service.
