Iver Huitfeldt as a cruiser-like frigate

Denmark's Iver Huitfeldt class combines strong air defense, modular weapons, and exceptional cruising endurance.

Notes

The Danish class is presented as a modern frigate near the cruiser end of the spectrum. Its SMART-L radar and Standard missiles support area air defense, while StanFlex modularity offers a practical way to alter Harpoon and Evolved Sea Sparrow loads without major reconstruction. Torpedoes, a helicopter, and naval guns give it useful capability across several threat types. The decisive cruiser-like feature is its quoted ability to cover about 9,000 nautical miles at 18 knots, linking combat capability to worldwide endurance. The related Absalon-class support ships apply the same design family to command and anti-submarine roles while adding a large roll-on/roll-off deck. The Type 31 inherits this unusually strong baseline design.
