Italy's sonar was effective but not producible at scale

A technically good sonar remained a boutique system because Italian industry could not supply enough sets for both submarines and surface escorts.

Notes

Italy developed a capable sonar set but lacked the industrial capacity to produce enough of it. The available output could equip submarines or surface ships for anti-submarine warfare, but could not meet both demands. A successful device therefore fell short of a usable fleet system. Production infrastructure and sufficient quantities were part of developing the capability, alongside the performance of an individual set.
