Isaac Sweers left the Dutch yard Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde unfinished and went to Britain for completion by Thornycroft. Thornycroft altered the machinery despite Dutch warnings to leave the engines alone, and Isaac Sweers went on to hold the class speed record. Her completed armament differed from the original Dutch specification. Six four-inch quick-firing guns could engage both surface targets and aircraft at high angles. She also carried 40 mm Bofors weapons, Vickers half-inch machine guns, British 21-inch torpedoes, mines, and depth charges. British completion therefore changed both her machinery performance and her weapons fit.
