From many proposals to one implemented ship type

Naval architects, ministers, transport officials, and merchant interests all produced versions of the same answer, but implementation remained the decisive step.

Notes

A contemporary professional discussion records several origin stories rather than a single uncontested inventor. Sir Douglas Thomson and colleagues in the Ministry of War Transport appear alongside Admiralty meetings, naval constructors, politicians, and merchant interests working toward similar answers. The immediate problem was a competition for scarce shipbuilding capacity between urgently needed merchant hulls and small aircraft carriers. The MAC ship met both requirements in one vessel, but the many proposals mattered only when an institution converted the shared logic into an implemented design.
