Doctrine, design evidence, and learning from Rajput

India combined British, Soviet, and indigenous naval thought while using the Rajput program to learn how destroyers were designed and built.

Notes

A warship's weapon balance, reserved space, structure, and system placement can reveal more about a navy's priorities than the political language surrounding procurement. India's preference for balanced, viable ships retained Royal Navy heritage, while its professional education drew on Gorshkov, Corbett, Mahan, and Indian naval theorists. India also sent personnel to observe and participate in the Rajputs' construction abroad, study their missiles, and understand the building process. This was deliberate institutional and industrial learning through an imported design. Doctrine, professional education, and hands-on design study prepared the move toward Project 15.
