How inter-service separation consumed carrier space

Separate RAF messes and facilities consumed space and weight within British carrier designs.

Notes

Internal carrier layout preserved the interwar division of naval aviation between the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. In the 1920s, RAF demands for separate messes and other facilities introduced duplication into British carrier designs. Each requirement used only a modest amount of weight or space, but it added another constraint within the hull. Later integration of air-group personnel removed the institutional requirement for that separation.
