Ships named Illustrious accumulated eleven battle honours across more than one hull. Genoa 1795, Basque Roads 1809, and Java 1811 belonged to earlier namesakes. The carrier added Taranto, Mediterranean, Malta Convoys, Diego Suarez, Salerno, Sabang, Palembang, and Okinawa. Eight of the name's eleven honours therefore came from this ship's service during World War II.
