The Home Guard's armoured train on a miniature railway

A miniature railway carried an improvised Home Guard armoured train with Lewis guns and Boys anti-tank rifles, part of a wider effort to adapt local infrastructure for invasion defence.

Notes

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway gave the Home Guard an improvised armoured train built around a 4-8-2 locomotive. Boiler plate protected two wagons, each with two all-round mountings, one for a Lewis gun and one for a Boys anti-tank rifle. The train is credited in the discussion with shooting down a Stuka, although no incident or source is identified. The example shows how local railways and available weapons could be combined for fixed-area defence. A later remark about plans to fight German troops underground in mines belongs to the same wider pattern of improvised invasion planning.
