HMS Wren's postwar ASW conversion

Wren's late-war and postwar career shows how a successful ASW sloop was adapted when fleet requirements changed.

Notes

Wren was nominated for the British Pacific Fleet in March 1945 but did not arrive before the war ended in August. After decommissioning, she returned to service in 1946 for duties in the Middle East. A 1949 Malta refit removed the anti-submarine equipment from her quarterdeck and used the space for additional accommodation. The alteration marks a clear shift away from the specialised hunting role that had defined her wartime success. She remained in service until 1955 and was scrapped the following year.
