HMS Unicorn's lost year of wartime service

HMS Unicorn provides a smaller carrier example in which a three-year build could have added a full year of wartime service.

Notes

HMS Unicorn provides a smaller and simpler carrier with which to test the same delay argument. She was laid down in June 1939, launched in November 1941, and completed in March 1943. Her scale is compared with the successful light fleet carriers, supporting a possible June 1942 entry into service on a three-year schedule. That difference would have given the Royal Navy another useful carrier for roughly a full additional year of the war.
