HMS Punjabi shows how damage control and crew endurance affected the destroyer battle. Torpedo and gun hits knocked her out early, and casualties among her officers deepened the disruption. Her crew restored enough capability for the badly perforated ship to return to action. Punjabi's recovery belongs to the same close-range fight in which damaged British destroyers kept pressing forward.
