Britain later ordered HMS Ocean, which resembled Invincible and used cheaper commercial construction for an amphibious troop role. HMS Ocean provided amphibious lift and a large flight deck without duplicating an Invincible-class carrier's fixed-wing combat capability. That division of work let a helicopter assault ship relieve some deck and transport demands. Australia's later Canberra-class landing helicopter docks offer a comparable approach. A different ship type could therefore expand amphibious lift and aviation availability without adding another fleet carrier.

HMS Ocean becomes an additional amphibious flight deck
Britain later answered part of the lift problem with the commercially built HMS Ocean, while Australia's Canberra-class LHDs provide a parallel.
