Furious begins life as an evolving aircraft carrier

Fisher's departure prevents Furious from completing in her intended gunship form and turns the unfinished hull into an early warship commissioned for aviation.

Notes

Fisher fell from office while Furious was still under construction, and the Royal Navy did not complete her with both planned gun turrets. Her operational story therefore begins with successive aviation configurations rather than with service as a finished battlecruiser. She was a keel-up warship commissioned in an aircraft-carrier role, although the first arrangement still retained one 18-inch gun aft. That status distinguishes Furious from earlier seaplane carriers and gives her a special place among the first warships completed for carrier operations. Aviation defined her entire commissioned career instead of becoming a later retirement role.
