Delhi received a major reconstruction because she was already in the United States for extensive refit work. The rebuilding included the Mk 37 fire-control system. Its installation gave the Royal Navy its first substantial experience of the system, and its success encouraged use elsewhere. The overseas wartime refit therefore became a route for technical evaluation and transfer between allied navies.
