Transferred to Canada during her American repair, Uganda sailed with 87 percent of her crew drawn from the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. As a Canadian flagship she joined the British Pacific Fleet and Task Force 57 after further work in Britain and Australia. She attacked airfields and installations on Formosa, then bombarded Japanese positions in the Sakishima Islands during the Okinawa campaign. Kamikaze attacks forced two carriers to retire and damaged another while Uganda continued screening and bombardment work. At Leyte she joined the United States Third Fleet, becoming the Royal Canadian Navy's only warship to fight the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Pacific.
