History and humanities teach transferable skills

History and humanities qualifications develop research and analytical skills that graduates can use in many professions.

Notes

History, arts, and humanities degrees often teach skills that do not point toward a single profession. Analysis and research can be applied in many fields, so graduates need not become professional historians for the degree to matter in their working lives. Few students in the teaching example become professional historians. The hope is that they will still share their passion for history and perhaps write a book. This helps explain why a direct degree-to-job comparison undervalues these subjects.
