Hermes is treated as an early carrier that is no longer suitable for first-line fleet service. Even so, a small fighter force aboard her could cause problems for the Japanese bombers operating at extreme range without escort. Sea Gladiators illustrate the limited capability that might suffice in those circumstances. Their actual availability in the theater is explicitly doubted, so this remains a possible use of the ship rather than an assumed fighter complement.

Hermes offers a limited carrier option against unescorted bombers
Hermes could help against unescorted bombers if fighters were available, but Sea Gladiator availability is doubtful.
