The Heinkel He 60 provides a basic scout with an engine penalty

The He 60 supplies basic reconnaissance with a two-person crew and useful endurance, while its heavy construction and engine complicate operation and maintenance.

Notes

The Heinkel He 60 carried a two-person crew and a flexible machine gun for the observer. Its patrol range was roughly 400 nautical miles, with a ceiling near 16,000 feet. The aircraft was heavy to meet its shipboard launch requirements, and its BMW engine was complicated and underpowered. A relatively simple reconnaissance aircraft could therefore still impose difficult engine maintenance on its operators. The He 114 and Ar 196 followed as replacements, yet coastal reconnaissance units continued operating the He 60 into the war. It remained in service until 1943.
