Why the B-52 remains the American heavy bomber in 1980

Fixing the scenario in 1980 excludes the B-1 and B-2, leaving B-52G and B-52H aircraft as the principal American heavy bombers while the F-111 remains available for strike missions.

Notes

Service-entry dates remove later aircraft from the scenario. The B-1 had flown as a prototype but would not enter service until 1986, while the B-2 belonged much later still. The United States therefore relies primarily on B-52G and B-52H bombers for the heavy role. The F-111 Aardvark was already operational and offered another strike option, but it did not replace the B-52's place in the 1980 force.
