Why H-44's displacement is not simply fantasy

The H-44's 20-inch guns and 131,000-ton displacement reflect period assumptions, though later technology would make equivalent systems much heavier.

Notes

H-44's 131,000-ton estimate fits the capability assumed for its period. Turrets, armour, shell hoists, gun elevation gear, fire control, and radar grow heavier as capability rises. Later systems demand heavier machinery because their shells, elevation ranges, sensors, and controls do more. H-44's paper weight relies on the technology and performance assumptions of its own period, while its real weakness remains the lack of German capacity to build and support it.
