Using naval guns to disrupt submarines in littoral water

A five-inch anti-submarine projectile is valued less as a one-shot killer than as a cheap way to force movement and expose a contact.

Notes

A five-inch anti-submarine round seen at a naval conference suggested an immediate connection to uncrewed systems and littoral ASW. One projectile might do little, but a pattern of thirty rounds could reach beyond torpedo range and make remaining still extremely difficult for a submarine. Movement or repeated underwater explosions could reveal the target's position for other weapons. The concept resembles Hedgehog in purpose while exploiting the range and ammunition capacity of a modern gun.
