HMS Grenville and HMS Hardy are grouped with the G- and H-class batches but are treated here as distinct leader designs. Grenville is presented as the more anti-submarine-oriented ship and Hardy as the more strike-oriented ship. Each carried five 4.7-inch guns, and flotilla command required extra space for staff and their work. Machinery rated at about 34,000 shaft horsepower gave 36 knots, while the quoted economical range was 5,530 nautical miles at 15 knots. Their power, range, and growing hull size trace the move toward more capable ocean-going destroyers.

G- and H-class leaders: Grenville and Hardy
HMS Grenville and HMS Hardy led the G- and H-class flotillas, yet their different purposes and extra command accommodation make treating the two batches as a single class misleading.
