Grand cruisers for independent striking power

Grand cruisers and battlecruisers are large, flexible ships that can operate independently, reinforce a line, or draw enemy fire. Battlecruisers are the newer type and are gradually taking over missions once assigned to grand cruisers. Their size gives a task group enough power to raid or fight away from the main fleet. Limited firing arcs and specialised weapon fits still make escort support important, especially when one of these ships is committed to a close attack.
