Commerce-raiding aggression and the risk of interception

A more aggressive raiding campaign might have sunk more merchant ships while bringing Graf Spee into battle with a Royal Navy task force sooner.

Notes

Langsdorff faced an exceptionally demanding mission with a single cruiser in the South Atlantic, nearly 10,000 miles from home. His results deserve to be judged against what one ship could reasonably achieve at that distance. A more aggressive commander might have sunk more merchant ships. Greater aggression also risked an earlier encounter with a Royal Navy task force and much faster damage or loss of the raider.
