Matching armament to piracy and disputed waters

The threat changes the weapons requirement when patrol ships face armed pirates or another state's activity in disputed exclusive economic zones.

Notes

Some operators need Gowind variants for threats extending to piracy. An opponent capable of firing back creates a stronger firepower requirement than an encounter with a fishing vessel. State activity in exclusive economic zones, including disputed zones, adds another level of confrontation. Weapons then communicate willingness to fight as well as providing the means to do so. In that signaling role, a gun can have advantages over a missile.
