Gorshkov frigates provide Russian naval presence through port visits. Their diplomatic value lies in arriving visibly and showing that Russia can send warships abroad. They attract less attention than a large cruiser or carrier, but the attention they receive is assessed favorably. Such visits give the class a peacetime use alongside its combat tasks.
