How Glorious's survival might have changed Taranto

A counterfactual follows a surviving Glorious into Mediterranean service and considers whether Eagle could have been repaired before the Taranto attack.

Notes

The strategic value of sinking Glorious depends partly on what the carrier could otherwise have done. Had she survived, she might have reinforced Force H or the eastern Mediterranean Fleet. Her availability could have reduced the demands on Eagle and allowed earlier repairs to Eagle's damaged fuel system. With Illustrious also available, that could have produced a three-carrier Taranto attack if the operation kept the same timetable. Greater carrier strength might then have increased the damage to the Italian fleet. This is a conditional argument about deployment, repairs, and timing, rather than an established alternative outcome.
