Tiger Cubs can serve beyond the North Sea and Mediterranean. Individual ships and pairs can range worldwide against surface raiders that ordinary light cruisers struggle to overmatch. Historically, the Royal Navy often had to detach a battlecruiser when a threat exceeded the Town- or C-class level, weakening the main theatre for a mission that did not always require capital-ship guns. The new cruisers restore the old armoured-cruiser tier: fast, modern flagships with enough power for distant operations but a lower strategic cost than battlecruisers.
