Why roads alone could not sustain German wartime logistics

Autobahns required lorries, and railways and fuel plants needed enough redundancy to keep supplies moving after disruption.

Notes

Autobahn construction did not provide the lorry factories needed to exploit the road network fully. Germany continued to depend heavily on railways, without sufficient redundancy. Synthetic-fuel investment also failed to deliver the intended output. Production sites and capabilities were insufficiently dispersed to sustain supply when problems occurred.
