Narvik becomes a German Pyrrhic victory

The projected result is a German victory bought with most of the destroyer force and many mountain troops, allowing faster Allied intervention at Narvik.

Notes

Repeated scenario runs usually leave Germany losing six or seven destroyers and about half its ground force, with worse outcomes also plausible. Nidaros can continue fighting if individual torpedo hits are absorbed by her bulges, though stern hits or impacts outside the protected section remain dangerous. The surviving German landing force then has far less capacity to hold Narvik when the Royal Navy's H-class destroyers and Allied reinforcements arrive. Norway still falls in the wider campaign, but Narvik is remembered as a costly German success against Norwegian defenders rather than chiefly as a later British destroyer victory.
