Germany sends old battleships from coastal defence to Jutland

Germany's smaller capital-ship inventory kept Brandenburgs on coastal defence and brought Deutschland-class pre-dreadnoughts into the battle line at Jutland.

Notes

Germany could not separate old ships from the battle fleet as readily as the larger Royal Navy. Two Brandenburg-class battleships had gone to the Ottoman Empire, while the German survivors defended the Baltic and North Sea coasts until their squadron disbanded in 1916. Deutschland-class pre-dreadnoughts then fought with the Second Battle Squadron at Jutland. The disparity was immense: Britain brought more dreadnought battleships than Germany possessed battleships, battlecruisers, and pre-dreadnoughts combined.
