A German fleet defeat frees Britain and strains Italy

An early destruction of Germany's heavy fleet would release British ships for other theaters and make Italy's struggle for naval fuel harder inside the Axis.

Notes

If the standardized German fleet is destroyed off Norway, Hitler would likely abandon the surface fleet earlier. British battleships and carriers would then become available for the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and Far East. Italy suffers from both the stronger British concentration and Axis alliance politics. If Hitler publicly dismisses heavy ships and denies fuel to his own navy, the Regia Marina has a harder case for scarce fuel allocations. A German naval defeat could therefore weaken Axis sea power beyond the hulls actually sunk.
