How would 210 mm guns on the Deutschland class change later German cruiser designs?
Short answerGermany might standardize on nine-gun heavy cruisers, while losing the 11-inch development work that fed into Scharnhorst and Gneisenau.
NotesA 210 mm Deutschland class would replace the historical six 11-inch guns with a cruiser-scale battery. The panel expects a later German heavy cruiser to develop toward a nine-gun layout and perhaps standardise on that calibre. Removing the Deutschland class's 11-inch weapon also removes much of the development work that fed the guns of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Those later capital ships might consequently receive a less mature or earlier-generation 11-inch system. One change to the cruiser battery therefore redirects both cruiser layout and capital-ship gunnery.
