Galaxy-class space changes from exploration to war

The same fictional hull can serve as an exploration cruiser in peace and a battlecruiser in war when laboratories and civilian space give way to weapons, sensors, and power.

Notes

The Galaxy class shows how mission allocation can change a ship's practical type without changing its basic hull. In peacetime, much of its volume supports laboratories, civilians, and long exploration missions. During the Dominion War, that space can instead support weapons, sensors, power, and other combat functions, and the speed of the change suggests that a wartime configuration had already been considered. Classification therefore depends on configured role and institutional need rather than on size alone.
