G3 and N3 gun lineage and the fast-battleship turn

A design-history aside connects the G3 and N3 gun debate to British large-calibre development and a possible shift toward fast battleships.

Notes

In this interpretation, the proposed G3 and N3 weapons were 16.5-inch developments in the lineage of British 13.5-inch and 15-inch guns, rather than the later 16-inch Nelson-class weapon. The concept enlarges the 15-inch/42 pattern into a 16.5-inch/45 gun. That distinction separates a native British development path from conclusions drawn through study of German weapons. An 18-inch fast-battleship version of Agincourt then leads to a wider design consequence: later Admirals and postwar capital ships would likely converge on fast battleships instead of maintaining separate battlecruiser and battleship lines.
