The FV432 began production in the early 1960s and could be made amphibious with a flotation screen and track propulsion. Its family supported mortar, command, recovery, ambulance, radar, artillery-control, anti-tank, maintenance, and other specialist roles. That breadth made the type a piece of connective tissue across the British Army rather than merely another armoured personnel carrier. Replacing this adaptable workhorse was more urgent than focusing only on headline fighting vehicles because some examples were already approaching six decades of service.
