F100 capabilities and the expanded Constellation requirement

F100's weapons and radar resemble much of the expanded requirement, with shorter range and weaker ASW provision as explicit disadvantages.

Notes

Spain's Álvaro de Bazán class provides a different starting point for the capabilities Constellation eventually sought. Drachinifel identifies its deck gun, 48 VLS cells, SPY radar, and canister-launched missiles as close to much of that desired fit. He also identifies weaker ASW provision and shorter range as disadvantages. His suggested tradeoff would remove some armament to make room for systems such as towed arrays. The existing radar installation is treated as a reason an update might require less structural change, without a completed redesign being demonstrated. The comparison depends on whether the actual priority is an air-defence combatant with ASW added or a primarily submarine-hunting frigate.
