Fresh-water supply for Far East amphibious operations

Plans to retake Singapore and advance toward Japan led to a proposal to dedicate an entire gantry ship to carrying fresh water.

Notes

Far Eastern plans exposed a requirement beyond fuel and landing craft: fresh water. One gantry ship was considered for conversion into a dedicated water carrier. The projected campaign would retake Singapore, reopen the route through Southeast Asia, and continue toward an invasion of Japan if the war lasted long enough. Any major amphibious operation in the region would have to supply enough water for the people it put ashore.
