French capital ships as a different Force Z

French capital ships drawn east by German pressure could have created a very different Force Z against Japan.

Question

What if French capital ships were sent east before Japan expanded in 1941?

Short answer

They could join British forces and create a substantially stronger, partly French Force Z in the Far East.

Notes

A French withdrawal from the Mediterranean could send whole squadrons to operate with Britain instead of merely removing them from the balance. Dunkerque-class ships and accompanying cruisers would bring modern speed and heavy guns to the Far East. A combined force could be substantially stronger than the historical Prince of Wales and Repulse deployment. That added strength would complicate Japanese planning against Malaya and the Netherlands East Indies. Political control of an allied fleet can matter as much as its technical characteristics.
