Francesco Mimbelli's modernization and multinational missions

Francesco Mimbelli spent much of her career at Taranto with the Italian Navy's second naval division. She served as a command ship for Task Force 150 and took part in work connected with Operation Enduring Freedom and counter-piracy duties. A major modernization between 2006 and 2009 came around the middle of her service life. Her later NATO service included Task Force 508 and Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), with counter-piracy work under Operation Ocean Shield. She also took part in operations connected with Pope John Paul II. These assignments took the destroyer through coalition command and maritime-security work well beyond the original Cold War setting.
