The 14-inch-gun successor planned for the Tegetthoffs

Austria-Hungary planned to follow its 12-inch-gun dreadnoughts with a roughly 25,000-ton design carrying ten 14-inch guns.

Notes

The proposed successor demonstrates that the Tegetthoffs were not intended as an isolated industrial achievement. The existing ships carried twelve 12-inch guns on roughly 21,500 tons, while the projected successor reached about 24,500 to 25,000 tons and carried ten 14-inch guns. Had the First World War begun later, that stronger generation might have entered service alongside Italy's own projected capital ships. The comparison shows an Austro-Hungarian design programme moving rapidly from a credible first class toward heavier regional competition.
